New Beginnings!

December would forever be our favorite month, exclaimed little Kiran to Asha. Both had never known their birth parents and were discarded in a heap of rubbish. They lived in an orphanage and were subjected to cruelty and torture of another kind, which those little angels never understood. One day, when they could no longer control, they bared their heart open to the angelic teacher who came to teach them once every week. Life changed there and then, when the police raided the shelter giving hope to the children that henceforth all their miseries and sufferings would definitely end.

#100WordStory Don’t grow up…Ever

After an exhausting trip to the market, the kids started yelling garden...garden.   Exhausted as she was, she could do with some me time whilst the kids played under her watch. She sat on the grass and looked around at the happy faces of the kids. The innocence in their smile and carefree attitude. Just then, a balloon bounced on her. Catching it instinctively, she caught her kids looking at her.   All the exhaustion aside, she stood up looking at those pleading eyes and said “catch me if you can”

Bringing out the inner child in you!

The entire day I’ve been coming across children’s day post, where pictures from our childhood were posted of themselves or of their children when they were toddlers. There was no single picture of us as adults indulging in our favorite things or memories from our childhood. It shows us how busy we have become in our life that we’ve learnt only to move ahead leaving the past behind. In a way, yes that’s a great way to live life; in the present and true for most people who have not had a great childhood and wish to leave the old memories behind. But as per me, memories make us (omission of the word or break is intentional). The pleasant ones give us something to look forward to and the bad ones teach us to learn from our mistakes. Both all in all work for us, if we learn how to apply them positively in life. Why do we then forget to enjoy and live life carefree like we did as children, without any inhibitions and pressure to succeed? Why do we not try thing just to experience i...

#100WordsStory The Reflection!

Looking at her reflection in the mirror, Kiran smiled. She reminiscined about her childhood when she would stare at her mother’s beautiful face. The raven black long hair, red lipstick and her assuring smile, made her going to work at nights easier for Kiran. Her mother was a bar dancer who was trying to raise her child with dignity and respect. Kiran caught her mother staring at her in the mirror. She looked at Kiran with pride and love. Kiran had to leave for work, and couldn’t be late. The CEO of the company had to set the right examples.

Exam Time Story!

My elder one’s exams started from Monday. Basically I’m a chilled out Mom, or I’d like to think so ;-), but exams used to bring out the scariest version of me, as per my kids. Well, I don’t disagree to that. Even my lil one was scared of me and tells me “I’ll do my coloring very well mom”, she’s only 4. With poor hubby its altogether a different story, even he sensed the tension and kinda stayed out of my way. Well, long story cut short, how do you deal with exam pressure? Here are some of the tips and mantras i started following and it has made exam time an easy ride for me, Hope it helps u too. The most important Mantra “Each child is UNIQUE”. Accept it and focus on your child’s ability and strength. Know your child’s concentration span, Study with breaks. Time Management plan is a must. Daily an hour of revising/reading lessons done go a long way in reducing exam time stress. ·          Repeat the learn...

When your Daughter is your Bestie!

Image
I am blessed with an Angel who was bestowed upon me 10 years ago from Heaven above. I quit working the time I came to know I’m pregnant. Luckily, I was working for my pleasure and growth and not for any financial constraints, so was easier. Seeing her grow has been a beautiful story in itself. Her first smile, her first flip, her first tooth, the first time she walked, all milestones in themselves. Incomparable with anyone else. Since the beginning I’ve kept myself and her out of the competition and comparison race. I’ve enjoyed each and every moment of her cute and innocent childhood. I had severe anxiety issues when she started playschool, but when I saw her going and coming out happily from there, that was motivation enough for me. Gradually, we settled into a routine. I ride a 2 wheeler, which she loved that time. She called it her plane, to fly away with her mommy. I took her every place with me, be it movies, shopping, a social gathering etc., basically never left her alone an...

#100WORDSSTORY Love is the 2 of us

Rahul was stunned as to why Riya called her there and that too today. They were to get married in a couple of hours. Riya was all calm and poised, she pointed ahead and looked at Rahul, this is going to be us for the rest of our lives, you sure, you’re up to it? He couldn’t control his laughter when he saw the Lion and Lioness in the zoo enclosure.  He looked at Riya and smiled , “Race you to the Mandap”

#100WORDSSTORY LOVE - FROM ONE HEART TO ANOTHER

The melodious song playing on the radio soothed my soul, it transported me back to the time when we first met, she swishing her arms and legs the moment the cloth swaddling her was untied. Me and Hubby were always clear about our firstborn, we wanted a girl, Papa’s Princess and Mama’s Bestie. People didn’t understand why we chose to adopt when we could naturally conceive and there really was no logical explanation. Riya is now 12 years old and the best thing that has happened to us. “CHOTI SI NANHI SI PYAARI SI AAYI KOI PARI” I hummed along.

#100WORDSSTORY NEW BEGINNINGS !

Payal and Shalu looked apprehensively around them. Everything looked different. The clean corriders, white washed classroom walls, the hustle bustle of children around them. They peeped out of their new classroom and looked for Meera Tai. She waved at them and signalled that she wouldn't go anywhere and would be waiting for them till their school dispersed. She was the one in whose house their mother worked as the househelp.

#100WORDSSTORY THAT RAINY NIGHT!

Sheetal rushed out of the high rise, which was her workplace since the last 5 years. It was raining. She jumped into the cab and reached the day care. Riya, her daughter hugged her and both started talking about their day. Being a single mom, she didn’t have it easy, but it was better than the constant mental and physical abuse she had endured in her seven years of marriage. Worthless! Was what she was called. One night he raised his hand on Riya. She picked up her crying daughter and walked into the RAIN to never return.

#100WORDSTORY THE WEDDING NIGHT!

Sharad looked at his beautiful wife, who was still dressed in her bridal finery, sleeping peacefully besides him. He reminisced about the night before, their wedding night! She was everything he wanted her to be, beautiful, shy, coy and most importantly a VIRGIN. A knock on the door startled him. It was his Mum. He quickly handed over the blood stained sheets to her and let a sigh of relief. This was getting easier by the day. The Pundit had asked for the blood of fifteen virgin girls for his Shani dosh to change. Two more to go, he smiled.

#100WORDSTORY THE HAPPY ENDING

It was nearly two years that Riya and Sumit started dating in college. They both knew their respective parents didn’t approve. One day, Riya was shown pictures of suitable grooms to choose from. She couldn’t decide what to do??? The small verandah outside her house was beautifully decorated. Riya looked beautiful in her Wedding finery. Her groom HITEN, was waiting for her at the mandap. She looked at her father, who held her hand with such love and pride. The Happiness in her father’s eye told her it was the right decision.

#100WORDSTORY ME to US

Theirs was an arranged marriage. Both were professionals, multitasking and busy in their own lives. Domestic responsibility started sinking in from after the Honeymoon. Life had become more or less mechanical with daily routines and schedules. He suddenly fell ill and had to take leave for a week. When she returned from work one day tired, sitting at the dining table, the empty vase caught her eye. She loved the fresh pink roses everyday in them. They were her favorite. There had been no roses in the vase since a week. She looked at her husband and smiled.

The Power of a Prayer

Image
“I Say a Lil Prayer 4 U” is a beautiful song with the gorgeous Julia Roberts on screen and was included in the soundtrack of the movie “My Best Friends Wedding”. But more than the visuals what gets me hooked are the lyrics :-  “The moment I wake up Before I put on my makeup I say a little pray for you While combing my hair now And wondering what dress to wear now I say a little prayer for you” Such simple ways to pray for someone. Prayers really don’t need a specific time or day or date. They don’t really need a platform like a Temple, Masjid, Church etc to come true. A heartfelt prayer made for someone anytime of the day is accepted by the Lord. The  prejudice that only the person entering a temple, completing all the rituals would be entitled for their prayers to come true, is as an equal hogwash, as to the person who prays on a prayer mat in the Masjid. Well numerous examples I can cite in naming different communities and religious worship styles. The point here is PR...

With Me Without Me = With You Without You

Image
Have watched Knight and Day..The movie (for the ones who didn’t know it) (are there even such people?), like endless times and still do every time it come on the Idiot Box. Why? I simply love it, Cameron Diaz is so cute, the locales are fabulous, the stunts, TOM CRUISE..Phew endless list. And the best thing I love about the movie is the life mantra it taught me..Altered a little for my convenience...WITH ME WITHOUT ME has become WITH YOU WITHOUT YOU . I’ve always been an extroverted, outspoken, travel freak who loves to watch movies, shop (every woman’s dream), hangout; try out new things in daily life. The monotony sometimes kills me. So I need to break free often to charge myself or else I become a cribbity hag who like a #itch will make life miserable for anyone in my radius. That’s when this Mantra saves my life... WITH YOU WITHOUT YOU . ·          Shopping: - So now I love to shop, Hubby as usual sulks at the name of it, and m...

My “khwabon mein aanewala"

I’m sitting by the window, having watched DDLJ for the umpteenth time, and thinking to myself, so did I marry my RAJ? Hmmm..Well I’m no SIMRAN ..only thing common between me and the movie was Kajol’s UNIBROW ;-) Was in my 9 th std, when DDLJ released and my innermost   poet unleashed as well. Wrote a poem to describe my “khwabon mein aanewala”..so cheesy..btw that’s how I like my Burger..so here goes:-                                                                                     HE Somewhere in the midst of sea of faces He’ll be there waiting for me so ...

PLASTIC BAN: NEED OF THE HOUR

Image
Seeing this recent image of a whale washed ashore and obviously very dead, was a sight. But what was worst was that its mouth was open and inside it were dumps of plastic , be it bottles, carry bags, glasses, wrappers etc.  India's second most populous state, Maharashtra has become the 18th state in the country to ban plastic after the government issued the Maharashtra Plastic and Thermocol Products (Manufacture, Usage, Sale, Transport, Handling and Storage) Notification, 2018 on March 23. YAY! Kudos to Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, CM of Maharashtra to take this tough decision at this timely hour. Am sure there will be many detractors and critics, who will try to retract the ban, as they might lose the profits they were making. But me as an individual am welcoming the ban with open arms. Not that I am any social worker or miss perfect, but as a concerned citizen, who also happens to be a mother, want my children to enjoy the bliss and bountiful nature which we di...

The Beginning to the End - A Poem

Image
I have always wondered what we are all here for? What’s our higher purpose? In this life with its never ending demands, what exactly satiates us? Material or surreal things? No one is satisfied in what they have. Everyone is just in a race to be first, and then after one race is completed we start preparing for another race, in which we lose the actual essence of Life. No one wants to congratulate a winner, as they are mourning their own loss. No one wants to feel happy for that friend who has amazing parents, coz they were not so fortunate in that department. And most of the sadness and emptiness amongst us is a result of lack of material things, which are now used to measure a person’s worth as against the goodness in his/her heart. A small attempt by me at Poetry, to convey my feelings and thoughts for the same. THE BEGINNING TO THE END From the age old myths and centuries forlorn Adam and Eve in this world were born From that time to this jet age We humans...

Discovering the old ME

Image
As a Girl who was married almost 12 years back by my parents who incidentally are in another city, I feel now like a matured married Woman. The transition from girl to this new status has been full of ups and downs, both good and bad memories. Somewhere along the way I felt I’ve lost my identity and individuality as I was busy playing Wife, Obedient Daughter in Law and then Mother. And then the social pressures of looking good and being perfect in utmost everything you do, was scared that sometimes I might even be judged on the number of my washroom trips ;-) slowly and gradually I started losing my individuality, wherein all the stuff I loved to do started taking a backseat. I don’t remember the last time I wrote a story/poem which is my LOVE, curled up in my favorite spot with a cup of coffee and a book in hand, put-on some Music and danced till I couldn’t stand anymore. Eventually all of this led to me becoming cranky and irritable, which affected my life and the people around ...

YOLO.

Image
Woke up on Sunday to the horrifying news that SRIDEVI is no more. She was my favorite since i was kid and have grown up watching all her films. Death is a Reality. Who comes has to go. What was cruel than her passing was the speculation surrounding her death.it suddenly got me thinking, that an actor of her stature,so fit and beautiful, having the entire world at her feet literally was gone in a puff. Seeing the news coverage of her death proceedings and cremation got me thinking..she had a legacy of films, her fantastic work to keep her alive in our hearts forever. Even her children, would have something of their mom to remember by. but what about us? got me thinking and appreciating everything around me. it made me think that the least i could do to get myself remembered after my death is a smile on someones face when they think about me. i resolved to make it a point to dedicate some ME time to myself for the sole reason it makes the interaction with others much more enjoyable...
